Our Sous Chef, Kah Wai, has been with us since the beginning of Adelphi. We recently sat down with her for a chat about her experience with us!
Kah Wai did her undergraduate studies in Melbourne, Australia. While she was there, she had the opportunity to be part of an event catering company. That allowed her to utilize her skills and gave her the fast paced experience of a kitchen.
A: How would you describe working in the kitchen?
K: Even before stepping foot into Adelphi, I already knew that working in the kitchen would be exhausting. At the same time, it is very challenging, being in the kitchen, you’ll need to learn how to manage your time well. Working in the hospitality/service line, it is expected we have longer working hours, standing, most of the time than those who work in the office. I think that’s a given, in the line of hospitality, it is going to be the same in every kitchen you work for, passion is what keeps you going!
A: How’s the experience so far?
K: There will be ups and downs, working in the kitchen; it all depends on how you handle the tasks at hand. Everyone who comes in here will need to start from the bottom and because of that; I got to learn everything from A to Z. In a smaller sized company like Adelphi & Co., working in the kitchen does not mean your only job is to cook, there are other things that come into place, such as inventory and order check. A lot of times, we need to take matter to our own hands so that the operation can run smoothly.
A: What’s it like to work in a team?
K: Working in a team of like minded people; you get to share ideas and interests with each other, that’s where something creative happens. Another great thing about working at Adelphi is, we get to work with a lot of premium ingredients. We believe in doing everything from scratch with no instant components added, which is a great way for us to improve in every aspect.
Working in the kitchen can be difficult, but it is where you will get to learn new things and get creative! You too, can be part of our team, do not hesitate to drop us an email at email@example.com. We’re happy to hear from you!
